OUTSTANDING
WRESTLER
Every year, one wrestler is recognized as the Panther Cub Outstanding Wrestler. The criteria for selection include Leadership, Teamwork and Accomplishment.
Leadership
Leadership is practiced not so much in words as in attitude and in actions. - Harold S. Geneen
How hard do you practice? How hard do you wrestle? What type of practice partner are you? What type of example do you set? Should your teammates follow you? Are your teammates following you? How do you handle yourself at tournaments? The coaching staff expects the older wrestlers to lead the younger wrestlers – by example! Whether it is in the practice room, on the wrestling mat or in the stands, the older wrestlers are expected to be leaders.
Sportsmanship
How a man plays the game shows something of his character; how he loses shows all of it. - Frosty Westering
How will you represent? When the wrestling season ends in March, every wrestler will have had an entire year to represent themselves, their parent’s, their coaching staff and their community. The expectation is that every wrestler will handle themselves with self-control and respect, win or lose. The ultimate challenge of wrestling is showing the same self-control and respect while experiencing the thrill of victory as well as the heartbreak of defeat.
Accomplishment
To be successful you must accept all challenges that come your way. You can't just accept the ones you like. - Mike Gafka
The ultimate goal of a wrestler should be to stand on top of the podium. Your success is directly related to the level of your discipline, intensity, commitment, toughness, heart and desire. If you achieve the highest level of discipline, intensity, commitment, toughness, heart and desire, your accomplishment will be recognized, regardless of your position on the podium.
